Who We Are
The International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) Local 904 is an organization that boasts a proud work history, representing a membership of approximately 1,600 people in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  The I.U.O.E., Local 904 offers highly-trained and multi-skilled people within its trades and occupations.  Our members excel in the operation of heavy construction equipment, maintenance and repair for all types of construction work.

What is Personal Information
We consider any identifiable information about you to be “personal information”

The Information We Collect
This policy applies to all information collected or submitted by voice, mail, e-mail or in person.  The types of information we collect are:
            birth date
            social insurance number (S.I.N.)
            telephone number
            facsimile number
            e-mail address
            place of employment
            copy of journey person certificate
            proof of qualifications
            *VISA number
            *American Express number
            *Only when this service is requested by a member to pay union dues.

The Way We Use Information
We use the information you provide about yourself in order to fulfil requirements of your membership.  We do not share information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to facilitate your Membership, Benefit Plan, Employment and/or Training.

We use your name, address, birth date, S.I.N., beneficiary, telephone number, facsimile number and e-mail address to:
            Contact you for employment.
            Respond to inquiries you may have about your membership.
            Provide information to employing companies for the purpose of payroll.
            Register your membership with Headquarters of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
            Update information required by Benefit Plan Administrators to determine your eligibility for benefits.
            Update information required by the Operating Engineers College to facilitate prospective training.
            Provide you with an official receipt of union dues to be used for income tax purposes.

We use your VISA, MasterCard and American Express number to apply money to your union dues, when this service is requested by a member.

We use your place of employment for the purpose of potential organizing opportunities.

We use your journey person certificate and proof of qualifications to confirm qualifications to prospective employers.

Such contact information is not used for any other purpose and is not shared with outside parties.  We never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us in ways unrelated to the ones described above.  We collect your personal information by fair and lawful means.

We obtain your consent for the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information.  Consent may be written, oral or implied by a person requesting membership into the I.U.O.E. Local 904 and providing their personal information or by a person who continues with their membership without objection, after receipt of this privacy policy.

You may refuse to consent to our collection, use or disclosure of information about you but if so, we may be unable to provide you membership into the I.U.O.E. Local 904.

Keeping Information Current
Through union dues statements, telephone and personal communication, we provide you with access to your membership information.  If for any reason your membership information needs to be updated or changed, please contact us immediately so we may promptly correct the information and address any inquiries.

Our Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy and ensure the correct use of information, we have  appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.  All paper files are kept in locked filing cabinets or locked storage rooms and is restricted to authorized personnel.  We utilize network computers which are ‘password protected’ to maintain all electronic files. 

Who Has Access to Personal Information
The administration staff of I.U.O.E., Local 904, including the Business Manager, Business Agent and office administrators only, have access to personal information.  The administration staff certify that they will maintain the confidentiality of the information entrusted to them and use it only for the purpose of fulfilling a person’s requirements for membership.

Individual Access
You and your eligible dependents may access your personal information to correct errors or omissions.  To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access to personal information.
